The Practice

SODAA was established since 2004 in Onslow Rd Shenton Park with the award-winning architect Daniela Simon as a sole practitioner with various collaborators and associates. The main body of work has focused on residential projects, new and renovated, Interior Design, some commercial fitout, pro-bono design support to small indigenous cultural programs, membership to design committees at the City of Subiaco and currently with Bremer Bay township, and some teaching at the University of Western Australia. Some work has been completed in Italy mainly to do with renovating Daniela’s family owned property.

SODAA has always been inspired by the need for increasing density in our ever-expanding city, by implementing renewable energy adaptation, by promoting passive solar design and, more recently, passive energy principles. Daniela has trained in Feng Shui out of personal interest and has applied those principles to her own projects. Nowadays she engages experts to advise clients who are interested in this philosophy and to ensure that this type of consultancy always offers the best advice. This practice endeavours to sustain and promote quality of construction methods, to use renewable materials and always aims at reducing energy consumption to the best of the current building science methods. Some compromises are considered if the ultimate achievement is that of constructing building that are long lasting, that use minimum energy and offer the option for constant improvement. The projects that represent the main body of work fit within the high end of the market spectrum and aim at encouraging passive building design for innovative architecture.
